Tread Lightly.

Oktober 28, 2007

Sorry for the lack of activity on the blog.  I’ve lacked the desire to post anything really substantial.  Further, there has been nothing particularly worthwhile to write about lately.

With that in mind,  I would like to comment on one of the more irritating aspects of my life lately, the Gillette TV commercial featuring Roger Federer, Thierry Henry, and Tiger Woods.  Ostensibly, you would think that a big budget ad with famous sports stars would at least look like they attempted to make it well.  However, this ad uses these athletes in such a way as to make them appear like they are poorly constructed robots with a really staged lack of emotion.  In addition, the computerized calendar in which each day is labeled today looks like it was constructed by a 12 year old in their spare time.  It seems like they spent their entire budget on the athletes and had about $200 left to film the ad.  However, the most aggravating aspect is tat the commercial is on TV about 6 times an hour.  Anyway, thats about all I want to say today. Further posts should be better.

Nantes.

First, I must apologize for the lack of posts lately.  I’ve been rather busy with many different things.

Second, I would just like to comment that doing too little at work is probably worse than having a full day work.  Personally, the idea of reading a 400 page report on mergers & acquisitions in 2007 as research is less interesting than it sounds.  Further, attempting to read for that long is tiring.   As a result, I feel much too tired to write anything substantive.

However, when I am more energized, I’ll treat you to post on how I came to be in an advertisement for my university (picture and all!)

You, you wear me down now.

This upcoming week at work is going to be unconscionably long and potentially damaging to my physical condition. Posting will likely be delayed until the weekend as a result.

If I could sleep forever…

Oktober 11, 2007

The most frustrating aspect of work (aside from the fact that I have nothing to do right now) is that I’m so tired all the time from it.  I just feel fatigued all the time, hence the lack of substantiveness of my blogs lately.

Everything is forgiven.

Here is a brief update on my life.

Thanksgiving weekend was slow.  I saw „Across the Universe“ with my sister because I owed her a favour.  I lost my toenail again and my back has been very sore.  Work has been difficult and very uncomfortable as a result.

Racial profiling of the future.

Oktober 5, 2007

From Wired:

In early March, 2003, investigators turned to Tony Frudakis, a molecular biologist who said he could determine the killer’s race by analyzing his DNA. They were unsure about the science, so, before giving him the go-ahead, the task force sent Frudakis DNA swabs taken from 20 people whose race they knew and asked him to determine their races through blind testing. He nailed every single one.

Still, when they gathered in the Baton Rouge police department for a conference call with Frudakis in mid-March, they were not prepared to hear or accept his conclusions about the killer.

„Your guy has substantial African ancestry,“ said Frudakis. „He could be Afro-Caribbean or African American but there is no chance that this is a Caucasian. No chance at all.“

There was a prolonged, stunned silence, followed by a flurry of questions looking for doubt but Frudakis had none. Would he bet his life on this, they wanted to know? Absolutely. In fact, he was certain that the Baton Rouge serial killer was 85 percent Sub-Saharan African and 15 percent native American.

„This means we’re going to turn our investigation in an entirely different direction,“ Frudakis recalls someone saying. „Are you comfortable with that?“

„Yes. I recommend you do that,“ he said. And now, rather than later since, in the time it took Frudakis to analyze the sample, the killer had claimed his fifth victim. The task force followed Frudakis’ advice and, two months later, the killer was in custody.

I understand that people would see such science as racism, but if your DNA tells what race you are, then it is relevant to the case. It would only be racism if someone planted the DNA of a person who is of a minority.

After tea when life begins again, they’ll be happier than me.

I have a fairly involved project at work to do. While many other new people are doing menial work, training, or other tasks I would associate with a new hire, I have to actually do some serious work. I guess everyone has to take some responsibility eventually.

Free Expression As Revolution

Oktober 1, 2007

After the first day of work, I must admit that I miss UWO quite a bit. There’s nothing quite like reading documents for 7.5 hours to make you miss a good sleep-in and 2 hours of class at university. Since I’m tired, I’ll spare you the details and just include this Ian Brown video because it rocks.

Also, a question to the readers, what is your opinion of Tegan and Sara?
