Lush

Lush

Lush are underrated British Band formed in 1988 whose career ended tragically early when drummer Chris Acland took his life in 1996. Starting out as a shoegazing band in the vein of My Bloody Valentine and Ride, Lush never received much critical acclaim, although their early albums, especially 1994's Split contain some of their best music. The single "Desire Lines" is an 8-minute haunting mourner that details a bitter break-up. 1996's Lovelife reveals a shift to the more up-beat pop sensibilities of the Britpop era. The first single off the album "Ladykillers" was their biggest success, and the eventual follow-up, a Shane McGowan-Kirsty MacColl-esque duet "Ciao!" featuring Jarvis Cocker of Pulp would have been huge had it not been for the untimely death of their drummer. Nonetheless, it is still good music and their music can appeal to fans of both shoegazer rock and Britpop.  Lush are Miki Berenyi, Emma Anderson, Chris Acland, Steve Rippon (bass), and Meriel Barham (guitar).
